Babb Lumber Company
Frequently Asked Questions
-
A number of building supply dealers no longer carry
treated wood products with AWPA on the end tags. However they claim their
products are equivalent and meet all standards. What is this? If the tag
does not have the AWPA logo, the product does not meet AWPA standards. While
most inspectors will allow substitution of other treated products, there is
no "equivalent" or direct substitute for AWPA standards. If the dealer does
not carry AWPA treated wood products, we suggest that you look elsewhere.
-
Why does Babb Lumber not produce the "micronized"
products? Babb Lumber has chosen to produce only pressure treated wood
products that meet AWPA standards for service life. While the "micronized"
products have been in the market for several years, these products have not
passed the AWPA review process and have not been awarded AWPA Standard
status. Also we have some unresolved health and environmental concerns
regarding the use of copper nano particles and Babb Lumber has chosen to
avoid these products until these concerns are addressed and resolved to our
satisfaction.
-
Some other treated wood producers seem to be focused on
environmental certifications and green points rather than AWPA Standards.
Why has Babb Lumber promoted AWPA Standards instead of green certifications?
Actually Babb treated products also qualify for green points and our Ecolife
product sets the standard for environmentally friendly products. But green
certifications are no substitute for proven product performance as indicated
by the AWPA Standard logo. With Babb Lumber products you get both proven
performance and green certifications!
