Babb Products meet AWPA Standards

Babb Lumber Company treated wood products use preservative systems that meet American Wood Protection Association (AWPA) standards and our quality control system is audited under the American Lumber Standards Committee (ALSC) quality auditing system. The AWPA has set the standards for treated wood since 1904.  Babb Lumber and our Dealers have chosen to require AWPA/ALSC products, and you should require AWPA/ALSC products for your project, for the following reasons:

  • AWPA is the only wood protection standards-writing organization with ANSI accreditation.

  • Only the AWPA has an open, consensus-based procedure for evaluating new and existing preservatives.

  • Acceptance of a product by the AWPA requires a comprehensive review of product performance.

  • The ALSC quality audit system assures rigorous quality control.

  • Only the AWPA/ALSC Standards are directly referenced in the IBC and IRC building codes, others must rely on Evaluation Reports.

  • Specify Babb products for your treated wood project and you can be assured of proven product performance and long life for your project.

The American Wood Protection Association (AWPA) is a non-profit organization which is responsible for promulgating voluntary wood preservation standards. More information is available at www.awpa.com  See http://www.awpa.com/references/homeowner.asp for information on identifying AWPA standard products and a listing of the current AWPA Standard products. You may view the USDA's Forest Products Laboratory TechLine on new wood treatments at Techline This report indicates that the consumer's best protection is to purchase treated wood products that are listed and produced by the AWPA standards.
